PRESS RELEASE: CELEBRATE! CAMBODIA AND THE PHILIPPINES : A CULTURAL FESTIVAL AT THE HAGGIN MUSEUM SATURDAY, APRIL 1, 2006 FROM 1:00-5:00PM FREE ADMISSION
The Haggin Museum and Stockton Crossing Cultural Bridges (SCCB) cultural arts project invite families to learn more about the unique cultures of Stockton's Sister Cities at "Celebrate! Cambodia and the Philippines: A Cultural Festival at The Haggin Museum" on April 1, 1-5 p.m.
The free festival will begin in front of the museum at 1 p.m. with dramatic performances by Cambodian Chai Yam musicians, Mga Anak Ng Bayan Filipino dancers, and APSARA Cambodian dancers. Inside the museum, starting at 1:30 p.m., live performances with music, dance, and storytelling will go on throughout the afternoon. A fashion show will feature traditional Cambodian and Filipino dress. Hands-on activities will include cultural crafts and traditional Cambodian and Filipino games for children.
Featured will be a special version of the SCCB documentary "To: Iloilo and Battambang," directed by Cambodian-American artist Sophoan Sorn, 21. SCCB celebrates cultural awareness and exchange. Funded by the 2005 Stockton Arts Commission Endowment for the Arts grant, Sorn's film commemorates the Stockton Sister Cities Association’s 2005 historic Goodwill Tour to Iloilo City, Philippines and Battambang, Cambodia.
The Haggin Museum is proud to be part of this community endeavor to promote greater cultural understanding. Admission will be free on this first Saturday of the month. The Haggin Museum is located in Stockton's Victory Park, 1201 N. Pershing Ave.
