Lodi Academy Graduate Makes Documentary
Lodi Academy graduate Sophoan Sorn, 20, has a busy future.
In November, Sorn will spend three weeks filming a documentary movie comparing life, people and culture in Stockton and its sister cities, Battambang, Cambodia and Iloilo City, Philippines.
It is all part of the Stockton Crossing Cultural Bridges project that he is directing. He recently received a $7,628 grant from the Stockton Arts Commission to make this cultural project happen.
Born in Thailand and raised in Stockton, Sorn is currently a Delta College student, but he is also a freelance fashion photographer, videographer, web page designer and piano instructor. He hopes to get a bachelor's degree and master's degree in film from San Francisco Art Institute, followed by a PhD in cinematography.
For now, Sorn said that he hopes that this documentary will make a difference somehow. He has an interest in cultural anthropology and aims to capture a realistic, rather than idealistic, view of society.
A film pre-screening will be held next February at the Wendell Phillips Center at UOP and the world premiere of the documentary will be shown next March. For more information, visit www.stocktoncrossing.org.
